What we're doing here

We should leave people and institutions better off than we found them. Good intentions alone are not sufficient. We examine consequences, and when costs are unavoidable, we name them and act deliberately.

Start from reality, make assumptions explicit, and update your priors when confronted with evidence. Rigor means following an argument to completion and distinguishing what we know from what we'd like to be the case. Rigorous thinking makes better decisions and fewer errors.

Problems worth solving rarely yield to the first attempt. We stay with them through ambiguity, failures, and the dull middle where progress is hard to measure. We do not mistake stubbornness for persistence; when evidence points another way, we follow.

Winning compounds. Individual leverage grows when knowledge and trust are shared across the team. We share context, ask for help when we need it, give credit where it is due, and treat one another's success as an increase in our own capacity.

We care about solving problems that are both hard and important. Given the information available, we aim to make the right decisions about what needs doing before tackling the problem. Permission matters when consequences are irreversible, but more often than not, judgment should lead to action.
